Packaging is the 800-pound elephant in the room of print growth opportunity because there are so many ways to weave packaging into a print sale. The story begins with some data!
In the last decade, consumers have embraced the value of packaging. The team at IPSOS tells us that packaging design influences buying decisions and even gift selection. They note that 81% of their survey respondents said that packaging design attracted them to specific gifts, and 63% think premium packaging equates to a premium product inside. Even better, when consumers are intrigued by packaging, they share! Searches for unboxing on Instagram tops half a million and YouTube has seen an explosion in similar searches.
Now you know why packaging can be a boom to your customers, but there is more to know. Your options begin with boxes but expand into hang tags, header cards, and labels. If you want to see how they look, the 4over Spring Into Profitable Packaging webinar includes an informative video that shows the options and explains how to work with 4over to meet your clients’ needs. The short story is that there are many options.
Boxes for All Reasons
If your mindset is that you and your clients don’t need boxes, let’s take a step back. Everyone can use boxes to make an impression. Start with how you deliver goods to your clients. Business card boxes can be coordinated with the many size and variations that 4over provides, but they can also be your billboard. Look at their templates for business card boxes and consider using at least one panel to remind your clients how to reorder more cards. You might make it easy by adding a QR code that links to your order site. It’s a great way to show them the possibilities, but don’t stop there.
For customers who sell products, cube boxes can be a great option. They come in sizes and can hold packaged food, herbs, soaps, toys, and jewelry. Remember, they aren’t food-safe, but anything packaged ahead in food-safe bags can slide into a cube box. They can be printed to your client’s requirements with brilliant colors, but you can also offer a rare marketing opportunity — Majestic embellishment options! Beautiful finishes that make any box stand out from the crowd.
For customers buying promotional items to support welcome kits, sports events, and trade shows, offer a roll-end, tuck-top box. Fill it with drinkware, notebooks, pens, and a cap to create that experience that makes recipients want to post pictures for their friends to see.
Label Your Way to Profit
Another great option is labels. They come in almost any shape and size and might not be the first thing your clients think of. Help them see the value! Roll labels can be a fast way to spread new messaging, spotlight an offer, and promote an event. They can add branding to bottles, promotional items, and generic packaging in a cost-effective way. Do you work with restaurants? Suggest custom roll labels to add to their to-go packaging!
BOPP labels (Biaxially-Oriented Polypropylene) are an industry standard and available from 4over in many configurations. They are oil and water-resistant and come in white, clear, and foil to make every customer project special. They also offer great semi-gloss paper labels and eggshell felt labels that are great on bottles! Explore your possibilities and add them to the conversations with your clients.
What About Tags?
Hang tags are a versatile offering! Custom hang tags can be cut to hang from a doorknob or rearview mirror (think about campaigns or event parking) or drilled at a corner to make it easy to loop onto a carabiner to attach to a backpack as an event ticket. Add a colorful ribbon and add them to a bottle or drinkware, or use them to add pricing or promotions to clothing hangers. There are so many ways to offer customers these great mini-billboards.
Header cards are another option. They are often stapled to the tops of bags to identify the contents and advertise the brand. Any retailer who puts a product in a bag at the point of sale can add a header card as a billboard to spread their brand and messaging, but it also acts as anti-theft security to easily identify customer-paid items.
With all these options, adding a print packaging talk track to every customer engagement can help expand your business and lift your customers. Talk to your 4over team to find the best print options for the clients you serve.
